This week was Tristan's 2nd Birthday.
I can't believe the little guy is TWO years old already! It's amazing how much he's changed in the last year.
Maddi planned a little party for him the day before his birthday, which was on Sunday. Unfortunately I had to work that day, but luckily I had a 5 hour break during the day between my first 2 sectors and my last 2 sectors. So I decided to jump in the car and head home for a bit in the middle of the day - something I never could have down at Qantaslink, the Sydney traffic alone would never have made it possible.
So I got to spend a couple of hours with the family, see our friends, eat some cake (ok, a LOT of cake) and then went back to work to finish my work day.
Monday was T's birthday proper, and I had the day off, so I kept the boys home that day for a Boy's day out. After breakfast I loaded them in the car and we went to Andy's Playland, one of those playhouse places that kids love so much and parents seem to fear. It was bigger than I thought, and the boys loved it! Also, since it was a Monday morning, there weren't many people there, so it wasn't too chaotic.
We had a lot of fun together, and I think the boys liked spending the day with their dad :)
Here are some photo's from the party and from our Boy's Day Out :)
This year, after realising how woefully light my skill set is, I decided to invest in myself a little and learn some new stuff.
To start with, I thought I'd give learning how to code a shot.
I signed up for a course on Learning HTML through OneMonth.com after I got a special offer on the price through AppSumo.com - a website I HIGHLY recommend.
Now I've never been that great with computers, so I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy this course. But as it turns out, I really did! I actually enjoy learning HTML, who would have guessed? It's like learning a new language, but this time it's actually useful (unlike all those stupid French classes I had to sit through in school...).
It took me a little longer than a month, but I actually finished the HTML course. That's kind of a big deal for me, I have a history of poor follow through on projects I start.
Am I now an expert web developer, about to launch my website coding skills loose on the internet? - No...but I do know the basics of building and publishing websites now while NOT using something as easy as Weebly, like I do for this site. In fact, I'm going to try some customisation of this blog soon by editing the HTML and CSS, which is something that Weebly provides for it's users, but I've never tried because it was all gibberish to me before!
Anyhoo, check out the cool Certificate I got from One Month...go me!!
This coding stuff is fun! I found a book series called Head Start, and they have titles for HTML, App Development, Wordpress, and a bunch of others. I'm going to keep going with the HTML for now and see what else I can learn.
I'll post more project sites here as I go.
I've been posting some photos I've taken at work to my Instagram account, I thought I'd share them here too.
Tell me what you think.
My name is Ryan, and this is my blog.
