I recently discovered two really great tools that have been helping me get back some serious chunks of time that I would otherwise waste each day on completely unproductive crap.
The first is a browser add-on called Kill FB Feed 0.5 for Firefox. Just like all Firefox add-ons, its incredibly simple to install, and how it works is to block the newsfeed items that usually appear when you log into your Facebook account....and then cause you two spend the next hour scrolling down the page reading depressing news stories, clicking on those annoying, crappy clickbait articles, and stalking all your friends, your friends' friends, your acquaintances, work colleagues, and on and on and on....you get the point. The Facebook newsfeed is an ENORMOUS time-suck, and this awesome little add-on blocks it from showing up on your screen at all. This way, you can still use your Facebook account if you need to for business reasons, or if you're waiting for a message or notification (these still show up at the top of the page). I LOVE this add-on, and by deleting the Facebooks apps from my ipad and iphone (stay calm people, it CAN be done!), it's keeping me from wasting huge chunks of my day now. The second is an app called Self Control. It's a free app, at this stage for Mac users only (sorry Windows!), which allows you to add distracting websites to a "Blacklist", and then set a time period during which you will not be able to access those sites. You can't even access the sites if you restart your computer, or even delete the app!! That's some serious self control... It can also be used to block access to your mail servers, because email is evil and takes up FAR too much of our time each day. I highly recommend both these tools, so go check them out! ~ Ryan
